Carer Information
Definition of a carer according to the NHS
A carer - is someone who helps another person, usually a relative or friend, in their day-to-day life. This is different from someone who is paid to be a care worker or someone who volunteers as a carer through a voluntary organization. The number of hours one does is irrelevant. This covers the following.
- Distant Carers
- Working carers
- Full-time Carers
- Parent Carers – those with children who need extra support
- Young Carers
- Sandwich Carers (Caring for more than one person)
At Oakley Health Group we are committed to identifying and supporting carers according to the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and as evidenced against the NHS England quality markers for general practice.
As such we have a Carers Champion - Louise Cook (Quality Manager) & a Carers Declaration
It is important that everyone who works here at the Oakley Health Group knows you are a carer so that we can offer you help and support if you need it. Anyone who looks after a friend or family member who cannot manage without them, and is unpaid, can register. This includes carers under the age of 18.
